Founded in 1769, the town’s name comes from the word Gay Na Bo, which means “Lugar de Agua Dulce” (Place of Fresh Water). There are both annual and ongoing events that may be of interest to you. The annual Cinemafest Puerto Rico, at the San Patricio Plaza, exhibits more than 100 films from around the world and is recognized by the International Film Critics Circle. Em 1508 Juan Ponce de León construiu a primeira Casa-Forte em Porto Rico neste local. Ela também serviu como abrigo da cadeira do governo Colonial Espanhol, tão bem como igreja Católica.
