Aguada
The Island’s second oldest settlement. By:Travel & Sports Staff, June-2008
Aguada is the Island’s second oldest settlement. Proof of this is the Ermita Espinar Ruins. It was built on behalf of Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Concepción as part of the effort to convert the Taíno Indians.
Each November 19, Aguada observes the Discovery of Puerto Rico with a huge parade. Year-round you can enjoy the beautiful surfing and bathing beaches such as Pico de Piedra and Playa Espinar.
How to go: South of Aguadilla, take Rt 2 to the right-hand turn for Rt 115 and into Aguada. ... (more)
Built in 1525 on behalf of the Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Concepción to convert the Taíno Indians. The alter inside the Parroquia La Inmaculada Concepción church includes parts of the original ruins.
With two towers standing over 100 feet tall, this is one of the most impressive churches in Puerto Rico. Built between 1924 and 1936, the stained glass window is a work of art.
